Mary MacPhail

IT IS with great sadness that the Rottweiler community received the news of the passing of Mary Macphail (Blackforest).

Mary’s association with the Rottweiler goes all the way back to the late 1950’s and, since that time, her contribution to the breed in the UK was exceptional.

Mary was a successful breeder and exhibitor, competitor in Working Trials, one of the founder members of the Rottweiler Club

serving 50 years as an officer and committee member,

international judge being the first foreigner to qualify as a Rottweiler breed specialist judge in Germany,

author, breed note writer, KC Breeds Liaison Council representative and the list goes on.

Mary wrote two excellent books: All about the Rottweiler (published in 1986) and The Pet Owner’s Guide to the Rottweiler (published in 1993)

and both are still very relevant and popular today.

Mary was a doyenne of the breed in every sense of the word. Never one to seek the limelight, she would happily work hard behind the scenes doing her best for the breed.

She was a person of the utmost integrity and intelligence and will leave a gaping hole in the Rottweiler world.

Mary’s funeral took place on Monday May 16th at 2pm at the West Berkshire Crematorium, Bath Road, Thatcham RG19 4LD.

Donations may be made in memory of Mary to Rottweilers in Need.
